2023 CCFLT Spring Conference
Reignite Your Spark

Dr. Cummings will present the topic of exploring language teaching through the lens of creativity.  Members will learn more about why creativity is important in language teaching today, engage with specific practices, various instructional moves, and multimodal strategies to support student learning, develop their target language proficiency, and expand their creative thinking.

Anne Cummings Hlas is a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where she teachers methods courses for future language teachers, honors courses on creativity, and Spanish language courses.  In her classes, she regularly incorporates improvisation and creative thinking techniques to promote interpersonal communication and collaboration.  In the last few years, she has continued learning about creativity as a coach for Odyssey of the Mind and as a rater for the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking.  Her research interests include high-leverage teaching practices, creativity and technology.  Her first book, Practical Creativity:  Activities and Ideas for Your Language Classroom, was recently published by Cognella Academic Publishing (2019).
